The OurJay Foundation was launched in memory of Jamie Rees, who suffered a cardiac arrest on New Years Day 2022, whilst with friends, welcoming in the New Year.
Accessible defibrillators are needed, everywhere. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time and at any age. With a defibrillator available within 8 minutes, it can increase the chance of a persons survival by up to 70%. Sadly for Jamie, the nearest defibrillator was locked inside a school and therefore not accessible. Despite the efforts of the Police and Paramedics, who did manage to get Jamie’s heart beating again, the oxygen starvation to his brain meant Jamie’s family and friends had to say goodbye to him on January 5, 2022.
Jamie’s family and friends have been working tirelessly to raise awareness of the importance of having 24/7 publicly accessible automated external defibrillators and have been able to fit well over 100 of these devices across Rugby, Warwickshire and further afield.
